Plans for Winter Break

Today is a great day because its the first day of winter break. I have a lot of plans for things around the house, to catch up on all the things I haven’t done since going back to work in August.

Besides watching SVU, here’s what I’ve got planned:

Repainting my bedroom:

Sherwin Williams “Restful”

I’m over the green I picked out over the summer. Its hindering my desire to paint the TARVA dresser (on the right) a bright color. Today I went to Lowe’s and bought another gallon of Fawn Brindle mixed at 25% strength.

The final choices

This was after picking out about 150 colors at Lowe’s, Walmart, and Home Depot and narrowing it down to the colors on the left. All of the colors were too pink, too purple, too yellow, too pale, too brown… Yesterday while eating breakfast, it dawned on me that since I love Fawn Brindle so much, I should just get a lighter version of what I love.

Cleaning Up This HOT MESS:

Not pictured: the pile of clothes that don’t fit

I’ve been putting this off for a while, but with tax season coming up I really need to go through this paperwork. I eventually want to turn this into a guest room or a game room, since my new TV doesn’t handle my Nintendo 64.

Painting this desk:

Too much wood

My art room is full of wood everything. In a burst of motivation this morning I redid my bookshelf to fit all of my art supplies. I finally unpacked 2 boxes that have been sitting there since May. I want to put the desk against the wall so I can do artsy things. I bought a quart of Valspar’s “Purplicious” to try to brighten up a really dull space. I also want to replace the wooden blinds with some of those balloon(?) shades, maybe get a plant stand from IKEA… I have a big trip to IKEA planned during my trip home.

More wood, and my sweet avocado plant that is infested with flies 😦

When I was a kid, winter break was all about the presents and toys and playing. Now that I’m grown, its all about trips to Lowe’s and home improvement.
