I was filling out some paperwork yesterday and it asked me, “How long have you been at your current address?” I counted on my fingers, and I was surprised to find out that I’ve been here for 6 months already!
I’m still feeling the excitement of moving into a new home, which makes every trip to Target and Walmart a challenge to not buy everything that makes me go, “oooh!” Therefore, I’ve given myself a monthly budget of $100 a month for all things house. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Home improvement things like paint
There was one day that I went to Lowe’s for a bigger pot for my peace lily and to look at paint samples (because I’m intrigued by the idea of painting the laminate floor in my kitchen) and I picked up 4 new little succulents. Then I picked up 4 little pots to plant them in. After walking around the store for 30 minutes more, I asked myself, “Do I want to spend part of my budget on these little guys?” and I proudly accepted the fact that I didn’t and I put them back. I still want them, though. Maybe December.
I totally went over-budget this month but that is because I finally found a mirror worthy of my mantel and worthy of my money.
I wandered into Kirkland’s while killing time when I saw it. Similar mirrors are twice as much at Home Goods… how could I resist!?!?! I think it pulls the room together. I also lifted my philodendron off the floor and onto an IKEA shoe rack that I no longer use. I don’t think this will be a permanent thing, but it works for now.
Here are the other things I bought with my $100.00 budget:
I’ve been looking for a wreath for a while now, and I didn’t want something that screams Christmas but I also didn’t want to spend a ton of money on it. When I saw this wreath for the price and look, I couldn’t resist. I strongly recommend Christmas Tree Shoppes for inexpensive wreaths!
I am fully aware that today is November 22 and I’ve exhausted my budget. I exhausted this budget a while ago. I also bought a tea mug that looks like my cat Sam, a map of Hogwarts poster, and a wind chime which I didn’t picture.
I’m not planning on buying anything for my house in December, except things for my upcoming Ugly Christmas Sweater Party 🙂 🙂 🙂 I’m waiting until Christmas to see if I get gift cards, which is what I asked for. I also plan on hitting up IKEA again while I’m home for the holidays. So, stay tuned for those purchases sometime in January. In the meantime, I’ll post pictures of my cheap party decor when the time comes.
